Range Training
October 8, 2022
8:30 am - 12:30 pm
Hello and welcome to this read-ahead for the Dynamic Response Solutions’ (DRS) Church Safety Team Training (CST). We are looking forward to providing you with excellent firearms instruction to increase both individual member proficiency and the comprehensive readiness of the Fountain Inn First Baptist Church Safety Team. This training event is scheduled for Saturday, October 8th, 2022.
Roll Call Location.
Everyone will meet for accountability at the Shady Grove Baptist Church parking lot (1201 Shady Grove Rd., Belton, SC 29627) at 8:00am. The DRS vehicle is a black GMC Yukon. Be on time but if running late contact one of our instructors. The drive to the range is about nine minutes but can be difficult to locate the first time so everyone will follow the DRS instructor to the range from the church parking lot.
Training Concept.
We’ll begin training at 8:30 am at the range. This course is scheduled for four hours and all of it is on the range. DRS Instructors will begin with a comprehensive Range Safety brief, followed by confirmation of baseline firearms proficiency, reviews of the Fundamentals of Effective Shooting, Presentation drills, Threat Identification, Deliberate and Intuitive firing, Movement, Close Quarter vs. Distant Threat Engagement, and Rapid Defensive Firing Techniques.
What to expect on the range.
Upon arrival “kit up”! This refers to putting on your holster, ammunition carrier, firearm, and extra magazine. Have your other safety gear with you as well (eye protection, ear protection etc.) or in a range bag. HAVE YOUR FIREARM AND MAGAZINE UNLOADED WHEN INITIALLY REPORTING TO THE FIRING LINE. LEAVE ALL AMMUNITION IN YOUR RANGE BAG. Range operations are thorough and safe. This is in no small part to the safety protocols used by the instructors. The range safety rules are easy to understand, and the range will operate smoothly with complete compliance.
Safe Area. DRS Instructors will provide an area where firearms may be maintenance, lubricated, or the attendee can practice his presentation after making adjustments to his kit. NO AMMUNITION IS AUTHORIZED IN THE SAFE AREA.
Medical. DRS will provide medical equipment to deal with any minor or significant injuries that requires bleeding control. There is a medical evacuation plan that also is in place. However, most injuries on a firing line have nothing to do with firearms. These include routine illnesses or prior injuries that if known about ahead of time can be rapidly affected. While not required it is encouraged that any health conditions that may affect live-fire training be made aware to the instructors. They’ll certainly respect privacy and if our instructors know about potential medical issues beforehand it could be very important. Nothing sensitive, just anything that if experienced on the range can be rapidly addressed. For example, people that have previously been heat casualties, are diabetic, or a hemophiliac for example.
What to bring.
Firearm, Holster, Magazine Pouch / Carrier (optional), Ammunition (150 rounds), Ear Protection (preferably earmuffs / phones), Eye Protection (ballistic / plastic safety glasses), Pen and Paper, a cover garment (light vest, shirt, jacket etc.), Driver’s License or government issued identification card, weather appropriate apparel (wet weather, cool weather, or hot weather etc.), a hat or ball cap (optional but recommended). Note: Have pants with beltloops and bring a belt if your holster is an IWB (Inside the Waistband) or OWB (Outside the Waistband) that requires a belt to be held in place.
Drinks and snacks as desired by the attendee.

Frequently Asked Questions.
- QUESTION: COVID-19 concerns.
- ANSWER: DRS continues to watch CDC guidance and will provide masks, hand sanitizer, temperature reading, and is prepared to maintain personal distance of six feet upon request.
- QUESTION: What if the weather is bad? Is there a cancellation due to weather?
- ANSWER: Barring any unforeseen extreme weather conditions training will proceed as scheduled. Bring appropriate wet weather gear if rain is likely. Safety as opposed to comfort is the overriding factor in live-fire training.
